At Home Denture Care

Easy Care Instructions

Daily Cleaning Is Essential

Steps for Proper Care

Every patient receives updated instructions on the correct way to clean and maintain dentures at home. Dentures should be cleaned every day and rinsed after every meal. Food particles trapped beneath or between dentures can mix with saliva and create acid. This leads to plaque buildup, unpleasant odours, discoloration and can contribute to gum irritation or gum disease.

To clean your dentures, use a soft denture brush and a non abrasive denture cream. Avoid regular toothpaste. After brushing, rinse thoroughly under warm water. Dentures can also be soaked in a denture cleaning treatment. It is helpful to alternate between brushing and soaking to achieve a more complete clean.

Nighttime Care

Your Evening Routine

Many patients choose to remove their dentures at night and soak them in water. This allows the gums to rest and helps prevent dryness or warping. Some patients prefer to keep their dentures in at night for comfort or joint support. Both options can be appropriate depending on individual needs.

If you soak your dentures overnight, do not use boiling water, bleach or detergents because these can damage the materials. Always use warm water or a denture safe treatment. If you notice signs of wear, plaque buildup or staining during cleaning, call our clinic promptly. Early attention helps preserve the fit, comfort and longevity of your dentures.
